For every happy event there is an unspoken sadness because you are not here. Dad, your sisters, and I all went to the pumpkin patch. We were having a good time looking through the fields to find each of our pumpkins. It was then a memory popped in my head… we had carved a pumpkin for big Mae before she was born. Then I thought to last year, we had gotten you a pumpkin too. I can’t remember if we carved it. After I shared this memory, your dad and I had a silent moment, we just looked at each other and no words were necessary… He went off and found a pumpkin for you. These holidays will always be hard. You will have a pumpkin each year, there will be an empty seat at thanksgiving, and a stocking hanging with your name. Reminders that you’re not with us but always a way to keep you here with us, if that makes any sense.
Loving you always and forever,
Mommy
